Even with unwavering love, parents sometimes struggle to keep a difficult child or teen at home. A child or teen may exhibit severe behavioral, emotional and/or academic struggles. Fortunately, with good collaborative care and based upon appropriate clinical research, children can remain at home and make positive changes that allow for success within the family structure.
We create a multi-pronged therapeutic plan to help your child or teen succeed in the home environment while treating the psychological and educational problems in tandem.Using our Wrap-a-Round approach, we create a multi-pronged therapeutic plan to help your child or teen succeed in the home environment while treating the psychological and educational problems in tandem. At Therapy West, we offer behavioral contracting, psychotherapy, parent education and academic support for our clients.
We increase positive behaviors in a child or teen by developing family contracts that specify behavioral objectives (e.g., agreeing to open communication about their whereabouts, a set curfew, and having study time clarified). Providing clear expectations and having a consequence for failing to meet those expectations are essential components for improvement. We also provide psychotherapy, parent education, and when appropriate, academic support.
Our Wrap-a-Round program is an effective approach when working with complex problems in children, teens and families. Often, this program is used for kids who are returning from a wilderness program, therapeutic boarding school, or hospital. As well, it is an effective treatment prior to these interventions.
