Depression

Depression

Depression is a common problem with more than 15% of young people reporting a depressive episode at some point in their development.  Symptoms of depression include sad mood for most of the day, loss of interest in pleasurable activities, sleeping difficulties, appetite changes, activity level changes, difficulty concentrating, low self-esteem, and thoughts of death.  With cognitive-behavior therapy the focus is to change the underlying thoughts and beliefs, which mediate the depressive feelings. Effective treatments include cognitive behavioral therapy, medication or a combination of the two.

With cognitive-behavior therapy the focus is to change the underlying thoughts and beliefs, which mediate the depressive feelings.  Frequently, behavioral assignments are prescribed to clients to help them learn to change their cognitions and take appropriate actions to alleviate symptoms. At Therapy West, we use the most up to date interventions to provide the best care to your child, adolescent, or young adult
