Social Skills Problems

Social Skills Problems

Social skills deficits affect individuals of all ages. Children, adolescents, and young adults sometimes describe this difficulty as not knowing what to do or say in social situations.  Having poor social skills negatively affects peer and family relationships and can lead to low self-esteem, social rejection, and depression. We help people learn the skills and behaviors required to successfully navigate social interactions.

At Therapy West, we help people learn the skills and behaviors required to successfully navigate social interactions. For example, younger children may need help with their tone of voice, greetings, how and when to interrupt, staying on topic or how to maintain a conversation. Older children may need support with informal vs. formal behavior, keeping calm, dealing with peer pressure, or appropriate touch. With practice and feedback, children learn to communicate and relate better with others and, thus, have a better overall quality of life. Effective treatment can occur in a group format or individually at Therapy West.
